General Information

Name: Brachypodium distachyon
NCBI Taxid: 15368
Description: Brachypodium distachyon is a grass species widespread throughout temperate climates, including its native Mediterranean growing regions and introduced regions in Australia, South Africa and western USA. It is a member of the Pooideae family and related to the major cereal grain species wheat, barley, oats, maize, rice, rye, sorghum, and millet. Due to its favourable characteristics (small sequenced genome, diploid, small physical size, short life cycle, simple growth requirements, and the ability to be self fertilised), it is used as a model for these temperate grass crops.

Brachypodium distachyon has a genome size of approximately 270 Mb made up of 5 chromosomes (1-5). Major unmapped scaffolds (such as 12 and 14, included in this GWAS analysis) represent 0.2% of the genome.
